The municipal company Aguas de Burgos has awarded ACCIONA the contract for the cleaning and inspection service of the city's sanitation network. The contract has a total budget of 8 million euros and will initially run for four years, with the possibility of a one-year extension.
The main objective of the contract is to improve the management and operation of Burgos' sewerage network, minimizing risks such as clogging and flooding, especially during heavy rainfall.
In addition, cleaning and inspection of the parts of the sewer network that cannot be visited will be done, as well as the inspection of the network that can be visited, including drains, scuppers, overflows and septic tanks. The extracted waste will be loaded and transported to the Villalonquéjar Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) or to an authorized landfill.
With this award, ACCIONA reinforces its commitment to sustainability and innovation in the end-to-end water cycle. The company currently manages the Villalonquejar WWTP, a facility that treats an average daily flow of 156,500 m³ and serves a population equivalent of more than one million. This plant receives wastewater from both the city of Burgos and the Villalonquéjar industrial park and the surrounding area.
The Burgos WWTP is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies for water and sludge treatment, one of the highlights being an innovative project called ‘HICCUPS’: a circular solution that transforms CO₂ emissions generated by the WWTP’s biogas into biodegradable polymers that can be used in applications in the food industry.
