Increasing violence in the Sahel region is causing a rise in the number of internally displaced persons. Fleeing Boko Haram through the desert, there is an urgent need for shelter and basic resources, like water. The Malam family came to Waragou in south-east Niger's Diffa region in search of safety and water.
IFAD, along with its partners, built a water pump in Waragou so internally displaced persons, herders and nomads alike could have access to water.
IFAD also supported the creation of a management group so that they can manage distribution without conflict.
