Suzanne R. Coffey, P.E., Chief Executive Officer of the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA), has been elected to the Board of Directors of the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA). NACWA represents public clean water utilities across the United States.
In this role, Coffey will participate in NACWA’s work on issues including infrastructure investment, PFAS mitigation, biosolids management, and water affordability. She was elected to represent Region 5, which includes Michigan and other Great Lakes states, during NACWA’s 55th Annual Association Business Meeting on July 24 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
“This appointment is both an honor and a responsibility,” said Coffey. “As stewards of the Great Lakes, we have a duty to ensure long-term sustainability, equity and resilience in the systems we manage. I look forward to offering our region’s perspective to the national conversation.”
Coffey joins other utility leaders from across the country on NACWA’s Board, which is involved in shaping environmental policy, pursuing federal support, and advancing approaches to clean water management.
As CEO of GLWA, one of the nation’s largest regional water and wastewater utilities, Coffey oversees services that provide drinking water to nearly 4 million people and wastewater services to nearly 3 million people in southeast Michigan. Her election to the NACWA Board reflects her professional role and GLWA’s participation in national water policy discussions.
