Houston Public Works has appointed Andrew “Drew” Molly as the department’s first chief water officer, according to an announcement by Public Works Director Randy Macchi.
Molly, who began the role on September 15, is now responsible for overseeing the city’s drinking water and wastewater systems. The position was created to strengthen leadership within the department’s water operations, which serve Houston’s population of more than 2 million residents.
He previously served as Chief Operating Officer at Corpus Christi Water, which provides service across a seven-county area. Molly has also been involved with the American Water Works Association (AWWA) for more than 20 years and is a past chair of its Texas Section.
“Drew is truly a ‘who’s who’ in the world of water,” Macchi wrote in a LinkedIn post announcing the hire. He described Molly as a “thoughtful, collaborative, and visionary leader” with experience managing complex challenges and fostering innovation.
