IDE Technologies, a global leader in water treatment solutions, has secured a contract with the State Industries Promotion Corporation of Tamil Nadu Limited (SIPCOT) to design, construct, and operate a new seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination plant in Tamil Nadu, India. The plant, which will produce 60 million liters per day (MLD) of freshwater, will be located in Mullakadu, Tuticorin, and is expected to help address the region’s growing water scarcity issues.
The project will be carried out in collaboration with Jindal Water Infrastructure Limited (JWIL) and Vishnusurya Projects and Infra (VPIL). This initiative aims to bolster local water management efforts and provide a sustainable source of potable water to the area.
“Solving water challenges for regions in need is at the core of IDE’s mission to make clean, high-quality water accessible to anyone, anywhere,” said Nayan Shah, Director of Sales & Marketing at IDE India. “Our team looks forward to working alongside our industry partners, JWIL and VPIL, to bring a new, state-of-the-art SWRO desalination plant to Tamil Nadu and to expand our global footprint in the region.”
Seawater reverse osmosis desalination is a process in which seawater is pushed through semipermeable membranes under high pressure, removing salts and producing fresh water. The process also generates a concentrated stream of brine.
IDE Technologies was selected for this project after competing against two other strong contenders in the market. The contract includes not only the design and construction of the plant but also the operation and maintenance of the facility for 15 years after its completion. The project will be executed under a Hybrid Annual Model and Public Private Partnership (PPP) framework.
