  • Oman launches $62 million water infrastructure projects to boost regional supply

About the entity

A major water infrastructure initiative has been inaugurated in Al Wusta Governorate, with the 24-million Omani rial Duqm-Haima Strategic Water Supply System Project being the largest among them, reports Zawya.

Spanning 211 kilometres, the project was launched under the patronage of Shaikh Ahmed bin Muslam al Kathiri, Governor of Al Wusta.

Implemented by Nama Water Services, the initiative is designed to enhance water security and support the provision of sustainable water services in response to population growth in the region.

The Duqm-Haima project includes the development of four stations:

  • The Duqm station features a pumping station equipped with mechanical and electrical systems.

  • The Al Ajaez station includes a pumping station and a 1,000 cubic metre ground reservoir.

  • The Abu Madhabi station houses a similar pumping station with a 1,000 cubic metre ground reservoir and a tanker filling station.

  • The Haima station comprises a pumping station with a 5,000 cubic metre ground reservoir, a 600 cubic metre overhead reservoir, and a tanker filling station.

Additional projects include the Diaa 1 solar-powered project in the Wilayat of Al Jazar, developed in partnership with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO). Located in the Wadi Ghadan highlands, it has a generation capacity of up to 60 kilowatts. The Wadi Rawnab tanker filling station contributes an additional 30 kilowatts of capacity.

Several desalination projects are also part of the broader development plan:

  • Al Khamkham desalination plant in Wilayat of Haima with a capacity of 42 kilowatts per hour.

  • Wadi Nafi desalination plant in Wilayat of Mahout, producing up to 400 cubic metres per day.

  • Dhahr desalination plant in Duqm Governorate with a 38 kilowatt per hour capacity.

  • Al Jazar desalination plant project, producing 240 cubic metres per day.

  • An expansion of the Al Najda desalination plant in Mahout, increasing its output to 500 cubic metres per day.

The initiative also includes the rehabilitation of six tanker filling stations in the wilayats of Mahout and Duqm, as well as the construction of wastewater treatment plants in the wilayats of Mahout and Al Jazer.
