About the entity

Stantec
Stantec designs with community in mind—whether that's in engineering, architecture, energy, water, or project management.

Stantec, a global leader in sustainable design and engineering, has been selected to lead the water reclamation facility (WRF) expansion design for Apache Junction Sewer District (AJSD) in Apache Junction, Arizona. AJSD, previously the Superstition Mountains Community Facilities District No. 1, provides wastewater collection and treatment services to more than 7,000 customers.

Project work is officially underway in Apache Junction, part of the Phoenix metropolitan area, and will help AJSD to better serve its growing community. The district currently operates 115 miles of collection system—almost twice its original size.

“We have a 19-year history working with Apache Junction and are deeply familiar with the work that needs to be done to support the area’s rapid growth,” said Maria Brady, Stantec project manager and senior principal, Water. “We have a dedicated and bright team ready to complete this project.”

Stantec will lead design and manage construction for the facility expansion from preliminary stages through final design and commissioning

AJSD is launching its WRF expansion in anticipation of ongoing development and population growth in the area. With work in progress, the expanded WRF will be finished well before the current WRF reaches capacity. Upon completion, AJSD will be able to support an additional 3.5 million gallons per day of capacity to serve the city.

“Properly planning for wastewater collection and treatment services in a rapidly growing community is crucial, and we believe Stantec is the ideal partner to lead the design of our expansion,” said Darron Anglin, district manager at AJSD. “The people on the team know our community, and we are confident they will deliver a premier facility that will serve residents for years to come.”

Stantec will lead design and manage construction for the facility expansion from preliminary stages through final design and commissioning. The project will include design, permitting, commissioning, and long-term facility compliance for AJSD. The expanded WRF will feature the latest technology and innovations in wastewater treatment operations.
