Abengoa reaches commercial operation phase at Jazlah desalination plant Jubail 3A, Saudi Arabia

ACWA Power’s Jazlah Water Desalination Company obtained the Commercial Operation Certificate on the 10th of April. The plant successfully passed all the necessary contractual tests led by Abengoa and entered commercial operation on the 28th of February. Jubail 3A has a total capacity of 600,000 m3/day, becoming the largest reverse osmosis desalination plant in commercial operation in Saudi Arabia together with Rabigh-3, also developed by Abengoa. It is the World's largest desalination plant to be partially powered by solar photovoltaic renewable energy.

Abengoa in process of being pre-qualified to develop Casablanca-Settat desalination plant

The plant, which will be located in the region of Casablanca (Morocco), will have a capacity of 548,000 m3 per day, expandable to 822,000 m3, and will use reverse osmosis technology to meet the demand for drinking water and irrigation for some 5,000 hectares of land. Abengoa has submitted to the ONEE all the documentation required to obtain pre-qualification for the Casablanca-Settat desalination plant, in consortium with Engie.

The Jubail 3A desalination plant has started pumping seawater to the pretreatment successfully as part of the tests at the start of commissioning. Jubail 3A will have a capacity of 600,000 m3/day, the same as Rabigh 3, the world's largest desalination plant in commercial operation using reverse osmosis technology, also developed by Abengoa. It will also be the world's largest desalination plant powered by solar photovoltaic renewable energy.

Abengoa successfully passes all contractual tests for the Agadir desalination plant

This new milestone reaffirms Abengoa's world leadership position in the desalination sector. It is the largest desalination plant designed and conceived for combined use for drinking water and irrigation, with a capacity of 275,000 m3/day and the possibility of expansion up to 400,000 m3/day. It is the only project in the world for two clients: the ONEE (Office National de l'Electricité et de l'Eau Potable) and the Moroccan Ministry of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests.
