LG Water Solutions is set to boost Oman’s water infrastructure, having secured a contract to supply over 23,000 of its SW 440 GR G2 seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) membranes to the Ghubrah III Desalination Plant, according to a recent press release. This facility, slated to become the largest in the country upon its commissioning in the first quarter of 2027, marks a critical step in addressing the Sultanate’s water security needs.
The Ghubrah III plant, once operational, will deliver a daily production capacity of 300,000 cubic metres, catering to the needs of approximately 2.5 million residents in Muscat. This project is integral to Oman’s 2040 Vision, which prioritises sustainable water resources for the future.
LG Water Solutions’ involvement comes through a partnership with GS Inima, the construction and operational manager of the project. The company’s advanced NanoH2O™ RO membranes will be instrumental in treating over 50% of Oman’s desalinated water capacity once the plant is functional.
LG Water Solutions in Oman
In Sohar, LG Water Solutions played a pivotal role in establishing a desalination plant with a 250,000 cubic metre daily capacity. Similarly, the company’s SWRO membranes were integral to the Salalah Independent Water Project in 2018, which produces 120,000 cubic metres of drinking water per day. More recently, in 2021, LG Water Solutions supplied membrane elements to the Barka V Desalination Plant, enhancing water supply in Muscat and the Batinah region with a 100,000 cubic metre daily output.
The efficiency and performance of LG Water Solutions’ products have been highlighted as key factors in reducing operational costs and energy consumption for the Ghubrah III project. The advanced technology enables the plant to function at lower feed pressures, ensuring significant energy savings and operational efficiency.
