Ancient climate change solves mystery of vanished South African lakes

Ancient lakes have been discovered in arid regions of South Africa, indicating a more widespread presence of Stone Age humans. Several large bodies of water sustained in the now arid South African interior during the last Ice Age, around 50,000-40,000 years ago and 31,000 years ago. Modeling reveals the necessary climatic changes to create these paleo-lakes and their impact on the region's hydrology, flora, and fauna.
