Electric vehicles could be powered by Hydrogen harvested from sewage
Hydrogen is valuable as it is a renewable source, and could be sold to the chemicals and plastics industry or used in hydrogen fuel cells for energy storage or electric vehicles. The ability to take hydrogen from waste water provides a new economic and environmental opportunity, however until now it has been incredibly expensive to suffice. Using a recycled carbon fibre mat, researchers from WMG, University of Warwick, have been able to produce Hydrogen from wastewater for Severn Trent.

Brazilian communities fight floods together – with memories and an app
Young and old citizens across Brazil brought together to collect and share information on rainfall using an app developed by researchers — this shared data will lead to more accurate, real-time flood risk planning at local and national levels. University of Warwick researchers collaborating with National Centre for Natural Disaster Monitoring and Early Warning (CEMADEN), connecting local communities with national authorities to save lives.

Why water droplets ‘bounce off the walls’
When a water droplet lands on a surface it can splash, coat the surface cleanly, or in special conditions bounce off like a beach ball. Droplets only bounce when the speed of collision with a surface is just right, creating a very thin nanoscale air cushion for it to rebound off. Drop collision is integral to technology such as 3D printing and spray cooling of next-generation electronics, and understanding this can help future developments in these fields.

India and London’s water quality and environment to be improved
Water quality monitoring in India and London will help to improve the environment thanks to researchers at the University of Warwick and exciting new partnerships. A £20,000 grant from the UKRI Citizen Science Exploration Grant means researchers from the School of Engineering at the University of Warwick will partner with London NGO Thames21 and India NGO Earth5R. Together they will to identify, co-develop and embed citizen science techniques in action research to evaluate locally led solutions for water quality monitoring.
