Every 5 June, World Environment Day is celebrated to highlight the value of nature and its importance for life on the planet.
In 2021, the UN has chosen to focus the day on the restoration of ecosystems, whose degradation is already affecting the well-being of at least 3.2 billion people, 40% of the world's population. Specifically, aquatic ecosystems, which are those whose biotope is a body of water, are particularly affected by human activity.
In this infographic, based on UN data, we explain the main consequences of the degradation of aquatic ecosystems.
