ACCIONA Agua has obtained two new contracts in Italy: one for sanitation and water treatment plant maintenance in Tuscany, and another to manage sewer networks in Apulia. The two contracts are worth a total of €31.57 million.
Publiacqua, the company in charge of water management in the area of Florence (Tuscany) has awarded ACCIONA Agua a contract to maintain drinking water and waste water treatment plants in the Florence - Chianti area, and repair of breakages in a number of municipalities in the region, grouped in three packets (Parto/Pistoia, Firenze/Chianti and Mugello/Valdarno).
The contract covers ordinary and extraordinary maintenance work and upgrading water treatment plants, including ancillary work such as civil engineering, waste transport and maintenance of thermal dryers.
This is ACCIONA Agua's second contract in the region; in 2017 it obtained a contract for waste water treatment and sewer maintenance in 18 municipalities, with a population of approximately 171,000, in the areas of Mugello and Valdarno, in the province of Florence, worth a total of €35 million.
Acquedotto Pugliese, the public water company in the Apulia region, the most industrialized region in Southern Italy, has awarded a consortium headed by ACCIONA Agua a contract for sewer inspection and maintenance in the province of Taranto, in which ACCIONA Service also participates with its environmental activity. The contract is worth €15.57 million.
This work is of strategic importance (including installation of new pipes under roads and extension of the existing networks) and requires exhaustive scheduling and planning; it includes finding leaks and applying non-digital technology (pipe repair without digging) while minimizing the environmental impact.
Experience in Italy
ACCIONA Agua's presence in Italy dates from 1999 and it has extensive experience in the country, in both construction and operation & maintenance of water treatment infrastructures; it has a number of offices and 400 employees there.
Landmark projects include the Saras desalination plant (12,000 m3/day), which provides high-quality demineralised water to the Sarlux refinery (owned by Italian energy group Saras Spa), located in Sarroch, near Cagliari, in Sardinia. The company has also been entrusted with operating and maintaining 260 waste water treatment plants in Sardinia and upgrading the water supply and sewer networks in the Sardinian provinces of Sassari and Olbia.
On the Pelagie Islands (Pantelleria, Linosa and Lampedusa), the company operates modular desalination plants to supply drinking water.
The company has also carried out major waste water treatment projects in such regions as Sardinia, Lazio, Apulia, Piedmont, Lombardy, Tuscany and Sicily. The company also built the extension of the Guidonia sewage treatment plant in Rome (serving 45,000 people) and the biofiltration plant in Scicli, as well as upgrading several plants in Bari, Cagliari and Milan.
