For the third straight year, ACCIONA attended and participated in the P3 Water Summit in the United States, accepting an opportunity to share the company’s expertise in all phases of P3 water projects.
The summit, held April 23-24 in San Diego, was attended by Diego Aritio, Business Development Manager with ACCIONA Agua; Ignacio Beneyto, Process Manager with ACCIONA in the United States; and Luis Palazzi, Managing Director of ACCIONA Infrastructure (USA).
Mr. Aritio and Mr. Beneyto also participated in panel discussions at the conference and shared ACCIONA’s international experience in the structuring of P3 water projects
ACCIONA is actively following several P3 projects in the water sector in US. The company’s wealth of experience delivering P3 water projects across the globe in a differentiator in the US marketplace. ACCIONA can take an active role in a P3 structure as equity investor, system integrator, designer, construction, operation and maintenance contractor.
ACCIONA’s international experience and success structuring P3 water projects and project deliveries worldwide is particularly valuable in the US markets due to its extensive experience in all parts of the value-chain and its financial strength.
ACCIONA Agua participates in water sector P3 projects by taking the following roles:
- Co-sponsor and equity investor in Project Co
- General Contractor or design build JV partner responsible for the design, construction and commissioning works
- Lead process designer together with a local engineering services provider as an integrated design team responsible for all aspects of the projects design.
- Operations and maintenance contractor.
“The integration of these four roles within a P3 project is highly valued by our clients and partners, and is attractive to agencies in the US looking to P3 water opportunities,” said Mr. Aritio.
In the United States, there is a lot of need to upgrade existing water infrastructure and to diversify water sources. This is particularly true in regions of the country that are subject to droughts and water scarcity. In California and Texas, desalination and water reuse are emerging as important options for diversifying water resources. Some of these projects are being structure as P3 Projects and ACCIONA is able to integrate and champion projects from the design to operations. Additionally, ACCIONA has experience integrating P3 structures with financial institutions.
“It was an interesting two days of networking,” Mr. Aritio added. “The benefits of the P3 methodology for water infrastructure development is becoming better understood by the public and private entities in charge of delivering safe, clean water to their communities.”
