About the entity

ACCIONA
The water business of ACCIONA concentrates on water treatment and reverse osmosis desalination, a technology in which it is the world leader.

Last month the Innovation Department of ACCIONA’s Water Division carried out the transfer of a new pilot plant for brine concentration to its final site, the San Pedro de Pinatar-II Seawater Desalination Plant (SWDP) in the region of Murcia (south-east Spain).

This new pilot plant, designed and built by the company, concentrates brine from seawater desalination plants by using state-of-the-art technologies. The aim is to reduce the volume of brine, increase the production of potable water and facilitate the recovery of components in the brine that have value.

To make the transfer possible, the pilot plant was loaded using mechanical means such as forklift truck, a pallet truck to move it and a crane to lift it due to its size (8 m x 1.6 m x 2.1 m) and place it on the truck that would transport it to its destination.

After a trip of almost 600 kilometres, the plant reached its destination: the San Pedro del Pinatar-II SWDP, where ACCIONA’s LEAD® demonstration platform is located. It will now operate continuously over the long term.

Thanks to the successful installation and commissioning, experimental work has begun to characterize and optimize the performance of the new process in a demonstrative environment.
