The African Development Bank has appointed Dr. Oluwatomisin Adeola Fashina as Senior Director, Information Technology and Chief Information Technology Officer, effective 16th January 2024.
A Nigerian national, Fashina brings to the role over 30 years of experience in technology and financial services management. He joins the African Development Bank from Ecobank Group where he has been group executive for Operations and Technology and managing director for eProcess International since March 2021.
In that role, Fashina exercised responsibility for operations and technology functions, including information technology, customer experience, information security and business continuity management, cyber security, procurements and fintechs across 34 Ecobank affiliates. He oversaw the design and implementation of digital transformation, customer experience transformation, robotic process automation and artificial intelligence projects, among others.
Fashina joined Ecobank Group in 2016 as group chief information officer and managing director for eProcess International, overseeing overall technology functions in the Group and delivering on its digital strategy and ensuring technology service delivery to end customers. He was also instrumental in the setting up of the Ecobank Software Center to manage software development, integration and driving innovation.
Prior to joining Ecobank, Dr. Fashina was chairperson of Steward Bank in Harare, Zimbabwe from 2013 through 2016; By 2015, he had successfully turned the Bank from loss- to profit-making.
Prior, Fashina held leadership roles with ABSA Bank as general manager and head of transactional banking products and channels management. He has also been director for Cash Management and Payments at Barclays Bank Emerging Markets in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as well as director for Client Delivery and division head for Electronic Banking and Implementation, both for Sub- Saharan Africa, with CitiGroup South Africa.
Dr. Fashina holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Nigeria, a Master of Business Administration in Marketing from the University of Lagos, Nigeria, and a PhD in Business Management from Capella University, in Minnesota in the U.S.
Of his appointment, Fashina said: “I am grateful to President Adesina for his confidence and the opportunity to lead the Information Technology Department and its talented staff.
