The Centinela Water System project has reached a significant milestone with the completion of its first pipeline weld for SIAM II, the second pipeline system within the project. This marks the beginning of an extensive construction phase that will include approximately 8,000 welds along a total of 144 kilometers of pipeline.
The welding was performed on 36-inch diameter pipes, each 18 meters long and 11 millimeters thick, forming the first section of the pumping pipeline.
This achievement was made possible through the collaboration of Almar Water Solutions, Transelec, and Aguas Esperanza, working together to ensure the project’s success. The Centinela Water System is being developed for Centinela Mining as part of its mining expansion, with the goal of ensuring a reliable and sustainable water supply for its operations.
This water transportation system is a key component of Centinela Mining’s growth plan, ensuring efficient water management in a highly demanding operational environment. Through modern and resilient infrastructure, the project will optimize water use in the region, aligning with best practices in sustainability and water efficiency.
To guarantee the highest quality and durability, the welding process followed a meticulous sequence:
- Profiling and pre-heating of pipe ends
- Placement of the base support and alignment of pipeline sections
- Secure fastening and installation of automatic welding equipment
- Execution of the welding process in a controlled environment to prevent atmospheric contamination
- Application of multiple successive passes to achieve the final thickness
This milestone highlights the progress of the Centinela Water System, a key infrastructure initiative that will enhance water management for the mining sector in northern Chile.
With this project, Almar Water Solutions strengthens its presence in the industrial sector, providing innovative solutions for water supply and efficient water management in challenging environments. Its expertise in public-private partnership models and technical capabilities position the company as a strategic partner in the advancement of the water sector across Latin America.
