As a heavily impermeable and densely populated city, historically marshy and crossed by several waterways, Brussels is particularly vulnerable to both pluvial and fluvial flooding. To address this challenge, Bruxelles Environnement is implementing a comprehensive flood management strategy focused on prevention, protection, and preparedness — combining spatial flood characterization with near real-time forecasting to anticipate events and activate protective measures.
The capital’s intricate urban river and sewer networks — featuring extensive culverts, underground infrastructure, and complex hydraulic interactions — make accurate modelling a formidable task. ICMLive provides an effective solution, enabling real-time integration of multiple data sources and automating flood forecasting, mapping, and alert generation.
In this session, Bruxelles Environnement will share its experience implementing this innovative system. Attendees will gain practical insights into how advanced modelling tools are being used to anticipate floods and strengthen resilience in urban environments.
Upcoming webinar: Thursday, November 13, 2025 – 10:00 (UTC+1)
Implementation of a flood warning system in Brussels: a solution based on ICMLive
This session will explore how real-time modelling and data-driven decision-making can transform flood management strategies, from monitoring to early warning and response. Participants will see how ICMLive integrates weather forecasts, hydrological observation, and upstream data into one automated system to support faster, more informed decisions.
Speakers:
- Antoine Michäel, Hydrologic Engineer, Bruxelles Environnement
- Abe Feenstra, Product Specialized Sales, Benelux – Autodesk Water Infrastructure Products
This free event is open to all professionals in flood management, urban planning, and digital transformation. Join us to see how ICMLive is helping Brussels build real-time flood resilience in one of Europe’s most complex urban environments — and discover lessons that can inspire similar projects across regions.
Subtitles will be available in multiple languages, and attendance certificates will be provided for proof of continued professional development.
