Themes

Brown and Caldwell, a leading environmental engineering and construction firm, announced its selection as prime consultant by King County Wastewater Treatment Division to develop the County’s Clean Water Plan to guide future water quality investments and initiatives.

The Clean Water Plan is a four-year effort to chart a path for the County’s investments in regional water quality for the central Puget Sound region. As prime, Brown andCaldwell will lead a team of economists, engineers, and planners, including Means Consulting, Carollo Engineers, HDR, and ECONorthwest, among others. The team will conduct an innovative scenario planning process to consider the region’s priorities and chart a pathway forward in a strategic utility plan. Throughout development, the team will collaborate and align with the regional engagement team to garner input and inform stakeholders. A crucial outcome of the plan will be guiding the direction and prioritization of billions of dollars in future investments to achieve the best water quality benefits, provide equitable and affordable service, and address climate change and sustainability goals.

Assimilated in e-book format, the interactive plan will allow for updates based on environmental and social triggers and events, making it a "living” document.

The contract marks a continuation of Brown and Caldwell’s legacy of environmental planning for King County.

"Brown and Caldwell has a rich history with King County’s Wastewater Treatment Division since its inception in 1958, having authored the County’s original sewer and drainage survey,” said Ian McKelvey, Brown and Caldwell project manager. "I am thrilled to continue this partnership as our team develops a plan that builds upon and reaffirms the County’s commitment to protecting public health and water quality in our region.”
