About the entity

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)
DEWA uses the latest technologies in water production, transmission, distribution, as well as control of water networks. This has contributed to several successes and achievements, making it one of the best utilities in the world.

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has commissioned a reservoir with a capacity of 30 million imperial gallons (MIG) of desalinated water in Hatta. The project, which costs about AED 86 million (approximately $23.4 million), included the construction of supporting buildings and the extension of entrance and exit pipes.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA, said that the reservoir project in Hatta supports the Comprehensive Development Plan for Hatta, launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. The reservoirs DEWA is building will help increase water flow and raise the volume of the Emirate’s water reserves to meet growing demand and increase the efficiency and reliability of water networks to support the sustainable development of Dubai.

Al Tayer explained that DEWA commissioned two water reservoirs in Lusaily and Enkhali this year, and is building a 120 MIG reservoir in Hassyan. The storage capacity will increase to 1,121 MIG in the first quarter of 2025.

DEWA is implementing a project to store six billion gallons of water in aquifers, which can be retrieved when needed. This will provide the Emirate with a strategic reserve of over 50 million gallons of desalinated water per day in emergencies for 90 days, while ensuring the quality of the stored water remains unaffected by external factors.
