The Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC), a leader in the integrated coordination of planning, purchasing and supplying of water and electricity across the UAE, has announced the appointment of Andy Biffen as the new Director of Capacity Procurement.

Andy joins EWEC from Reach Solar Energy where he served as the Director and Co-founder based in Australia. Taking over from John Hurst, Andy will be responsible for managing the development of the technical and multi-discipline aspects of EWEC’s projects going forward. During the transition, John will remain in an advisory capacity and ensure a smooth operational handover.

Othman Al Ali, Chief Executive Officer, EWEC, said: “I would like to thank John for the substantial contributions that he has made to our company and the sector, having successfully led numerous world-class projects for EWEC. At the same time, we are very excited to welcome Andy Biffen to the EWEC family. His wealth of knowledge and experience in the energy sector will be invaluable to EWEC.

Over the course of his career, Andy has held numerous leadership roles within the energy sector in the Middle East region. This includes CEO of Shamal Azzour North in Kuwait, Executive Managing Director at HPC in Bahrain and Executive Advisor at Sumitomo Corporation in Abu Dhabi.

On his appointment, Andy said: “I am excited to take on this new challenge and build on the successes achieved by EWEC. I look forward to working with the inspirational leaders and the broader team as we continue to build a water and electricity sector that strategically places world-leading renewable and clean energy projects at the forefront.”
