HDR is expanding its portfolio of expertise by acquiring SPF Water Engineering, an employee-owned water, wastewater and hydrogeologic consulting firm. Going forward, they will do business as HDR | SPF. As part of the asset acquisition, SPF includes MDS Drafting, which will be doing business as HDR | MDS.
Based in Boise, Idaho, SPF offers water supply studies, well design and construction, water and wastewater system design, water rights consulting and more. MDS Drafting provides value-added services in building information modeling and laser scan support to improve productivity and elevate projects.
“Our companies have a history of strong collaboration,” said Eric Keen, HDR’s chairman and CEO. “Together, we look forward to working with our clients to bring innovative technical solutions to our projects. Our combined team will offer the industry’s best technical expertise as we deliver sustainable projects.”
This marks HDR’s second acquisition in the past year that will help HDR bolster its strength in water-related services
“HDR provides additional resources and complements our specialty in water services,” said Bob Hardgrove, SPF’s president. “I am excited about the amazing projects we will be able to deliver, and I look forward to the future with HDR.”
The collaboration between our companies began in 1994, with a focus on delivering some of the most transformative water rights and water resources projects in the U.S. Northwest. In this region, HDR, HDR | SPF, and HDR | MDS have a total of 1,150 professionals.
This marks HDR’s second acquisition in the past year that will help HDR bolster its strength in water-related services. In August 2021, HDR brought on board civil engineering firm WRECO, a California company that focuses on environmental compliance, geotechnical engineering and water resources planning.
HDR is the eighth largest 100% employee-owned firm in the U.S. by employee count; the acquisition of SPF brings another 30 people to the company.
