Global infrastructure services firm AECOM has secured a contract with Irish Water to provide Resident Engineering staff across its North, North East and North West regions to support the national water services provider’s major Capital Investment Programme.

Under the new contract, AECOM will act as Resident Engineer on projects delivered through the Programme to 2021 and beyond. Projects will include the construction and upgrade of water and wastewater treatment plants and water and sewerage networks, as well as reservoirs and dam infrastructure. Providing Resident Engineer and supervision staff across various grades and disciplines, AECOM will drive the delivery of projects on site on behalf of Irish Water focusing on health and safety, quality, environmental, programme and cost management.

The three-year contract, with the option to extend by a further two years, will require a large number of supervisory staff. With projects across the country, AECOM is now growing its 120 strong water team in Ireland to help deliver the scheme, expecting more than 100 people to be working on the programme at its peak.

David McCune, Director – Water, AECOM, said: “Irish Water’s major programme of capital projects will improve the quality and capacity of water services across the country, upgrading Ireland’s water infrastructure to meet the needs of future generations. AECOM brings its extensive experience of the Irish water sector to this scheme, working in close collaboration with Irish Water to manage the successful delivery of these vital improvement projects.”

This latest contract win follows AECOM’s appointment in November 2018 to the Stillorgan Service Reservoir scheme. AECOM is lead design consultant to Murphy International Limited for the major upgrade, which includes a new 160ML covered storage reservoir that will protect and improve water quality for more than 200,000 people in south Dublin.
