  • Landis+Gyr brings South East water network leak detection technology to Australia and New Zealand

About the entity

At Landis+Gyr, we create a greener tomorrow through leading smart metering, grid edge intelligence and smart infrastructure technology.

Landis+Gyr Pty Ltd., a subsidiary of Landis+Gyr Group AG (SIX: LAND), has partnered with Iota, the commercial arm of South East Water, to offer a network leak detection sensor, enabling water utilities to reduce non-revenue losses.

South East Water which developed the network leak detection technology called Sotto® has currently 5,000 of Landis+Gyr’s smart water meters integrated with leak detection sensors, installed across their network in Melbourne.

This technology will be a game-changer for our network. Access to real-time network visibility will enable us to gain a better understanding of asset health and inform our maintenance schedules and planning process. From our customers’ perspective, it will help us to fix leaks before they cause disruptions. It will also enable us to reduce non-revenue water losses, which saves money and conserves our precious water resources,” explained Andrew Forster-Knight, General Manager Digital Utility at South East Water.

Combining Iota’s expertise with Landis+Gyr’s leading technology in Smart Metering, Grid Edge Intelligence and Smart Infrastructure, including experience in network sensors, the leak detection technology will enable smarter and sustainable water management solutions for utilities and their customers.

“Iota is excited to have Landis+Gyr as a strategic partner committed to sharing the Sotto® network leak detection technology with the global water industry. Sotto® is a game-changer for our industry in its proven ability to economically identify and locate leaks in the network, at scale,” said Daniel Sullivan, CEO at Iota.

Landis+Gyr has been collaborating with Iota and South East Water for several years to elevate digital water transition efforts.

“We are proud to continue our partnership with Iota and South East Water to accelerate the adoption of digital technology by leveraging on our global network sensing experience, enabling utilities improve response time to critical events when they occur. With our significant local presence and expertise in Australia and New Zealand,>we are placed strongly to partner with water utilities to navigate through digital transition,” said Rodney Chaplin, General Manager of ANZ, Landis+Gyr.
