The National Water Company (NWC) has completed the operation of (8) new stations to purify drinking water in the King Fahd suburb of Al-Bayda Governorate in the Eastern Province. This is the first package of (15) drinking-water purification stations in the cities and governorates of the Eastern Province, with the aim of improving the quality of water provided to customers and increasing the coverage with desalinated water.
The company explained that it pumps a maximum capacity of more than 20,000 cubic meters of desalinated water daily from the eight stations in the King Fahd suburb using a mini reverse-osmosis (RO) system. NWC is currently evaluating the efficiency of these stations, monitoring the flow and pressure of desalinated water in the targeted districts (first, second, third, sixth, and parts of the seventh district).
The company stated that the number of beneficiaries of the cleaning stations in King Fahd suburb in Al-Bayda Governorate is about 75,000 people. NWC indicated that the company is working to complete the remaining work to construct (7) drinking water treatment stations in other locations in the city of Dammam and the governorates of Al-Khobar and Al-Jubail to reach a total production of (76,600) cubic meters of desalinated water per day. This is the total production of all project components, which includes (15) desalinated water treatment stations.
The company explained that the construction of compact drinking-water treatment stations is one of the outcomes of the national water strategy that contributes to achieving the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030. This project keeps pace with urban expansion in the Eastern Province governorates and temporarily meets the region’s demand for desalinated water until additional volumes are pumped through water quality improvement projects that are being implemented and planned to be received from the strategic partner; the Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC), in the next two years.
