PolyCera, Inc., which designs and manufactures innovative membrane technology solutions serving the global water, wastewater and process separation markets, announces that, after rigorous testing, its Hydro flat sheet membrane has been approved by the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for use in food processing applications. These applications include dairy processing, fat and caseins removal, and whey concentration.

The approval letter states that, “we have no hesitation in providing our opinion that the Hydro flat sheet membrane may be used as intended in full compliance with the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act and all applicable food additive regulations.”

In addition, PolyCera membranes have been certified to NSF/ANSI 61, which covers all products with drinking water contact from source to tap. Forty-eight U.S. states have legislation, regulations or policies requiring drinking water system components to comply with, or be certified to, NSF/ANSI 61. In addition, eleven Canadian provinces/territories require drinking water system components to comply with the requirements of NSF/ANSI 61.

“These approvals now open up significant opportunities in the food & beverage process separation market, from which we have already received great interest. This is an important step forward in expanding our business into new markets and applications,” said Simon Marshall, president and CEO of PolyCera, Inc.

Made with organic metals, PolyCera membranes are already being used in more than 100 installations around the world. These products transcend traditional membrane performance, offering the robustness of ceramic membranes at a polymeric membrane price point. PolyCera’s portfolio includes PolyCera Hydro membranes, which are available as ultrafiltration membranes, and PolyCera Titan ultrafiltration and nanofiltration membranes, designed for difficult-to-treat water/wastewater. PolyCera membranes are manufactured using conventional production techniques and can be delivered in all standard form factors for conventional cross-flow systems. They are adaptable for retrofits or new build systems.
