Salicru launches new variable frequency drives for solar water pumping and water extraction

  • Salicru launches new variable frequency drives for solar water pumping and water extraction
  • The CV50 variable frequency drive (VFD) and the CV30-PV VFD for solar water pumping systems complement Salicru's Controlvit range of VFDs for use in water treatment equipment and other applications.

About the entity

Salicru
Salicru, the first power electronics company in Spain, is dedicated to the development, manufacture and marketing of products that protect industrial, professional and domestic systems from the incidences of the electrical supply.

Salicru's broad range of variable frequency drives (VFD) has two innovative series that are ideal to be used in water treatment equipment and their multiple applications: the CV30-PV and the CV50.

CV30-PV, the VFD for solar water pumping

The main feature of the CV30-PV product series is that it allows water pumping using the radiation captured by solar panels as an energy source. Solar energy is transformed into direct current that powers the drive, and this in turn powers a submersible pump using alternating current, thus water can be extracted from the ground. The extracted water can then be stored in a tank or pond for later use, or it can be used directly for irrigation, depending on the needs.

This system is very useful in all facilities that need a reliable, cost-effective water supply, with a long service life and low maintenance costs. In addition, it is environmentally friendly, since it does not generate pollution nor noise.

The CV30-PV series' features can be expanded significantly thanks to interesting additional options

The main application of the CV30-PV is agricultural irrigation, which can be done by storing water in a tank for later use, or directly from the well. Other applications include domestic water use in remote areas, water supply for livestock, fish farming, municipal and forestry irrigation, desert control, etc.

  • Advanced features

The CV30-PV series has different power models (ranging from 0.4 kW to 75 kW), easy to set up. Only a few parameters need adjusting, adapting to environmental conditions to achieve optimal function at all times.

The new Salicru equipment also introduces some new characteristics, such as the MPPT advanced algorithm that allows tracking the maximum power point in solar panels, with double PID control and 99% efficiency.

In addition, it has features such as automatic start and stop based on solar radiation, dry well and full tank detection.

Among the many protection features it has, there is surge protection, warning about reverse polarity in the photovoltaic input, and automatic overheating protection.

  • Outstanding optional equipment

The CV30-PV series' features can be expanded significantly thanks to interesting additional options.

Worth noting is the BOOST MOD-320-PV booster module. This new booster can be used in VFD models of up to 2.2 kW. It enables reducing to a great extent the number of solar panels needed to power the system, achieving great savings and simplifying the system. As well, it allows automatic switching to mains power or generator power.

Low power VFDs for solar water pumping systems currently available in the market needed a solar panel set up with a large number of panels in series, to reach a certain nominal voltage in the DC bus (usually 330 Vdc for drives with 230Vac output and 550 Vdc for drives with 400 Vac output).

The BOOST MOD-320-PV booster module raises the voltage provided by the solar panels to the level needed by the drive

The BOOST MOD-320-PV booster module raises the voltage provided by the solar panels to the level needed by the drive, so you only need to install the number of panels that the pump power demands. For example, with a 1hp, 400Vac pump, we go from needing 18 panels with 270Wp without the booster module to only 5 with it.

The equipment also allows, in those cases where a certain water availability is required, automatic switching to mains power or generator power when the energy available in the solar panels is not enough, switching back when it is.

With the launching of this new BOOST MOD-320-PV booster module, not only do you save on solar panels, structure, wiring, etc.; it also simplifies the set-up, reduces the visual impact and increases the acceptance of low power solar pumping systems.

Finally, we expect the equipment to include a GPRS module and an app for smartphones soon, to establish the parameters and monitor the equipment remotely, and facilitate the maintenance of the facility.

CV50, a VFD for water pumping systems

The CV50 series by Salicru comprises power ratings that range from 0.75 kW to 500 kW. They are suitable for both constant (submersible pumps, blowers, positive displacement pumps, etc.) and variable torque applications (centrifugal pumps), and therefore allow the costs of the system to be optimised by adapting to the type of load to be regulated.

This power duality, and their automatic energy-saving function that enables significant reductions in consumption, make the CV-50 drive the ideal equipment for water treatment and irrigation applications.

The series stands out for its design, reliability, ease of use and versatility, being suitable for most pumping applications: dosing, flow regulation, pressure control, groundwater extraction from wells, filling tanks, treatment plants, etc.

In pressure control systems, the CV50 drive enables the creation of a pressure unit with up to three pumps (main pump + two auxiliary pumps). Also, it features two level parameter setting modes for sleep or wake: % of sensor pressure or by frequency.

Other characteristics of the equipment are: two analogue inputs, 16 programmable pressure values, dual ramp up setting, pressure sensor simulation through the built-in potentiometer, and RS485 Modbus communication.

A wide range of products

The CV50 VFD, together with the CV30-PV VFD for solar water pumping systems, complement Salicru's Controlvit range of variable frequency drives for use in water treatment equipment and other applications. Their main use is to regulate motor speed in industrial facilities and processes, adapting to changing load needs and thus reducing energy consumption.
