Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) has announced that it has received a proposal from a consortium consisting of ACWA Power, Haji Abdullah Alireza & Co., and AlSharif Contracting and Commercial Development for the development of the Jubail 4 & 6 Independent Water Project (IWP).
The proposed desalination facility will be situated 18 kilometers south of Jubail Industrial City, on the Arabian Gulf coast, near the existing desalination plants (Jubail Phase 1, Jubail Phase 2, and Jubail 3A & 3B) in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province.
Once completed, the Jubail 4 & 6 IWP will have a production capacity of 600,000 cubic meters of potable water per day and will include an electrical substation.
SWPC previously stated its intention to carry out a competitive tendering process to select a private sector developer or consortium to manage the project's development, financing, procurement, construction, operation, and maintenance.
The successful bidder will form a project company to undertake the initiative and will sell the full water production capacity to SWPC through a 25-year concession agreement governed by a Water Purchase Agreement (WPA). The Saudi Arabian government will provide financial backing for SWPC's obligations under the WPA through a credit support agreement.
