About the entity

Severn Trent
We were founded in 1974 as a regional, state-owned water authority based in the Midlands and responsible for water supply management, and waste water treatment and disposal.

Water and waste company Severn Trent is to begin the next part of its £13.5m investment in Leicestershire.

The FTSE 100 Company will begin work replacing aging water pipes between Barrow upon Soar and Sileby, with work beginning next week.

Timothy Ip, Community Officer from Severn Trent said; “We’re investing a lot of money across Leicestershire to improve our water network so that our customers have a reliable water supply that’s always there when they need it.

“We know how frustrating it is to have no water when you turn on the tap, that’s why projects like this where we know we have aging pipes in our network, it’s important that we replace them so they don’t burst and cause problems for our customers.”

Severn Trent will be replacing the pipes between Barrow upon Sour and Sileby, and will complete the work in two phases.

Phase one will see the teams working on Bridge Street roundabout, with one lane closed for safety with a fully signposted diversion.

Phase two will be replacing the pipework from South Street to Barrow Road, with the team working in sections as they go.

“We know that this is a busy stretch of road we’ll be working on for the second phase of the project,” adds Tim. “We will be using two-way traffic lights to keep our engineers and everyone else on the road safe, as well as keeping traffic moving.”

This project forms part of Severn Trent’s wider investment in Leicestershire, which will see the company replacing 85km across the county to provide a more resilient water supply for its customers.

“We know that the pipes in this area in particular are really fragile,” continues Tim. “So it’s vital we get in and do this work before they cause any problems by bursting.

“We’re sorry in advance for any disruption this may cause, but when we’ve finished,  everyone will be able to enjoy a reliable a water supply that will serve them for years to come.”

The company has been replacing pipes on similar projects across Leicestershire since summer 2018, and is aiming for this part of the project to be complete in Summer 2019.
