The Abu Dhabi Department of Energy (DoE) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Space42, a UAE-based AI-powered SpaceTech company, to collaborate on geospatial and artificial intelligence (AI) solutions aimed at improving sustainable energy and water management across the emirate.
The MoU sets out a framework for cooperation in developing and applying advanced geospatial and AI technologies to enhance the resilience and efficiency of Abu Dhabi’s energy and water infrastructure. The collaboration aims to strengthen environmental sustainability and support the emirate’s long-term resource management goals.
Under the agreement, Space42 will provide the DoE with satellite imagery and managed services, including high-resolution optical, radar (SAR), and thermal data. These resources will be used to improve infrastructure monitoring, planning, and predictive analysis. The company will also deliver geospatial AI solutions to support data-driven decision-making across the energy and water sectors.

The partnership will explore additional areas such as integrated monitoring systems for electricity, water, and district cooling networks, as well as AI-driven simulations to improve flood resilience and rainwater catchment management. The collaboration also includes developing systems that use Internet of Things (IoT) and AI technologies to process real-time data from remote DoE sites and assets.
By combining AI with satellite data, the initiatives are expected to improve the accuracy of water management through better insights into soil moisture levels and other key environmental indicators, supporting more efficient resource allocation.
Both parties plan to pursue joint pilot projects, studies, and other initiatives to further advance sustainable resource management in Abu Dhabi. The agreement also aims to promote innovation and best practices in the use of digital and AI-driven tools for infrastructure monitoring.
According to the DoE, the partnership aligns with the UAE Energy Strategy 2050 and national goals for climate resilience and water security. It is intended to enhance monitoring, forecasting, and operational efficiency across critical energy and water systems.
