ACWA Power has sealed an agreement worth SR3 billion ($800 million) with Senegal's Ministry of Water for the development of a state-of-the-art desalination plant, reports Arab News.
Under the terms of the agreement, ACWA Power will oversee the entire project, including infrastructure development, design, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of the Grande Cote seawater desalination plant in Senegal, located in West Africa. According to ACWA Power, the desalination plant is planned to have a production capacity of 400,000 cubic meters per day.
Its first phase and financial impact are expected to materialize by the first quarter of 2028, with a contract duration of 32 years.
This new contract solidifies the ongoing partnership between ACWA Power and Senegal. Previously, in September 2022, the company had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Senegalese National Water Co. and the National Electricity Co. of Senegal.
The MoU outlined plans for the development of a seawater reverse osmosis plant with a capacity of 300,000 cubic meters per day in Grande Cote, situated approximately 40 km north of the Senegalese capital.
The development was the first desalination project in the country to be facilitated through a public-private partnership and the largest treatment initiative of its kind in Sub-Saharan Africa.Principio del formulario
