Saudi Arabia's ACWA Power is bidding for three desalination projects that the Egyptian government is soon to announce, according to a statement from Egypt’s finance minister, reported Zawya.
The projects, which are set to be developed under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, are part of Egypt's effort to expand its seawater desalination capacity.
"ACWA Power is bidding for three large seawater desalination projects in Egypt…these projects will be carried out on a PPP basis and will be offered by the government in the next few weeks," Egypt’s finance minister, Ahmed Kouchouk, said on the ministry's website.
Kouchouk made these remarks after meeting with a delegation from ACWA Power during the World Economic Forum in Davos. While he did not provide further details, he emphasized Egypt’s interest in utilizing ACWA Power’s expertise in both desalination and wind energy.
He also highlighted that ACWA Power, listed on the Saudi stock exchange, has an established presence in Egypt through its involvement in several renewable energy projects.
