Additive Catchments and Capgemini have announced a strategic partnership to tackle the UK’s escalating river health crisis using AI-driven technology. The collaboration will scale Additive Catchments’ Catchment Monitoring as a Service (CMaaS®) platform, designed to help water companies meet regulatory requirements, cut costs, and reduce carbon emissions while addressing pollution.

With only 14% of England’s rivers currently meeting good ecological health standards, the partnership responds to urgent environmental needs outlined in the UK’s 2021 Environment Act, which mandates continuous water quality monitoring.

Capgemini will support Additive Catchments by industrializing its CMaaS® platform, combining advanced sensor networks with AI and digital capabilities. Capgemini’s expertise in AI and digital transformation will enhance the platform’s scalability, offering research and development in machine learning, virtual sensors for cost reduction, ESG advisory services, and operational management.

“This collaboration reflects Capgemini’s commitment to working with high-potential ventures that drive sustainability and digital transformation,” said Rob Walker, Managing Director of Capgemini UK. “2025 is a pivotal year for the UK’s water industry, and we are proud to contribute to a solution that addresses this national priority.”

Rob Passmore, CEO & Co-founder of Additive Catchments, highlighted the partnership as a milestone: “With Capgemini’s support, we are well positioned to accelerate the delivery of our solution and scale its impact across the UK, enabling water companies and stakeholders to meet critical regulatory challenges while driving tangible improvements in river health.”

The CMaaS® platform aligns with the over £100 billion investment expected during AMP8, the five-year regulatory cycle starting in April 2025. It integrates data from sensors, satellite imagery, and public agencies, providing actionable insights to water companies, farmers, landowners, and local communities. This partnership not only addresses immediate UK needs but also sets the stage for scalable global environmental monitoring solutions.
