American Water, the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the United States, has announced plans to invest between $46billion and $48billion over the next ten years to upgrade its water and wastewater infrastructure. The utility outlined the investment as part of a broader New Year announcement that also includes customer guidance on conserving water and managing household systems.

The planned investment is aimed at strengthening system performance by reducing leaks, improving efficiency and increasing resilience across American Water’s service footprint. This capital spending commitment builds on the company’s ongoing efforts to maintain and modernize water and wastewater systems serving millions of customers nationwide.

Cheryl Norton, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of American Water, said: “Over the next ten years, American Water plans to invest $46 to 48 billion in system upgrades to strengthen our water and wastewater infrastructure, which reduces system leaks and increases efficiency and resiliency.”

Outside the home, American Water advised that customers water outdoor plants only when necessary, repair irrigation leaks, and use drip irrigation or early morning and evening watering to reduce evaporation.

American Water serves regulated drinking water and wastewater customers across 14 states and several military installations, delivering services intended to support public health and environmental protection while meeting growing infrastructure demands.
