Anglian Water has announced plans to establish a Major Infrastructure Delivery Framework worth up to £1.5 billion excluding VAT, aimed at supporting long-term investment across the East of England as the utility prepares for climate change impacts and population growth.
The new framework will appoint an integrated delivery partner to provide early contractor involvement (ECI), design, construction, and CDM duties, with flexible call-off arrangements to support a broad programme of works. According to Anglian Water, the approach is designed to ensure projects meet customer, stakeholder and regulatory expectations while maintaining the highest standards of safety, health and wellbeing.
Initial work packages to be delivered through the framework will focus on Coastal Waters Improvement schemes, covering grey and green civil engineering, process technology, and storage infrastructure.
The agreement is expected to run from July 2026 to July 2031, with the option of a further five-year extension subject to business need and supplier performance, allowing for a maximum term ending in July 2036. The estimated contract value is £1.5bn excluding VAT and £1.8bn including VAT.
Important dates announced include the anticipated publication of the tender notice on 29 January 2026, with the deadline for requests to participate on 27 February 2026 at 11:59 pm. Anglian Water aims to reach an award decision by 3 July 2026.
This framework represents a pivotal step for Anglian Water, reinforcing its commitment to resilient infrastructure and sustainable water management in a region facing complex environmental and demographic pressures. The company’s emphasis on collaboration, innovation, and high safety standards reflects its strategic role in driving infrastructure development across the East of England over the coming decade.
The procurement will be published as a request to participate and will cover a wide range of works and services, including water and wastewater construction, pipeline design, construction management, environmental planning, and health and safety services, across both the East Midlands and the East of England.
