Aquaporin A/S, a Danish water technology company known for its Aquaporin Inside® technology, has announced that it is withdrawing its previously proposed rights issue and filing for bankruptcy. The decision was made by the Board of Directors on January 30, 2026, after the company was unable to secure the necessary funding to continue its operations.
Despite receiving support from shareholders and investors through pre-subscription commitments, the company concluded that the offering would not generate enough capital to meet its working capital needs for 2026. The board cited a lack of sufficient subscription commitments and stated that, after exploring various avenues for funding, including potential strategic transactions and asset sales, they could not identify any investors or partners willing to provide the necessary financial support.
Aquaporin’s board expressed regret over the company's inability to capitalize on its proprietary technology, which focuses on energy-efficient water filtration through reverse and forward osmosis. “It is with great sadness to acknowledge that Aquaporin has not been able to drive commercialization in a pace and scale that allow for its continued efforts within these areas while safeguarding the technology through Danish ownership. The Board of Directors firmly believes that the Company could have made significant impact in the global water technology market to responsibly treat industrial wastewater, concentrate food and beverage products in a natural way, and enhance drinking water quality and accessibility had additional funding been available."
The board also acknowledged the contributions of the company's employees, customers, partners, and investors over the years. "We would also like to express our gratitude to efforts made by the executive management and the employees, and the support provided by our customers, partners, and investors over the years”," they said.
Following the board's decision, the Danish Maritime and Commercial High Court in Copenhagen issued a bankruptcy order on February 2, 2026. Teis Gullitz-Wormslev of Kromann Reumert Advokatpartnerselskab has been appointed as the trustee of the bankruptcy estate. Creditors will be informed separately on how to file their claims.
The company has also indicated that it expects trading in its shares on Nasdaq Copenhagen to be suspended shortly.
