The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) is preparing to launch several critical drainage projects across Qatar in the fourth quarter of 2025, as reported by Gulf Times.
Of these, nine will be managed by the Drainage Networks Projects Department, while one will be carried out by the Drainage Network Operation and Maintenance Department. The planned projects include a range of significant infrastructure upgrades, such as the construction of the 755/1TSE transmission main and related works in the Al Shamal area, the Foul sewer GAP tunnel in Doha North, and the foul sewer network refurbishment for Qatar South and West. Additional projects include improvements to Madinat Khalifa Road, rainwater drainage systems in select areas of Al Thumama, and roads and infrastructure in the North East of Al Wakra. Also on the agenda is the replacement of the existing vacuum sewer system with gravity systems in Al Dafna, and stormwater flood prevention works in East Al Thumama.
Recently, Ashghal also unveiled a five-year plan worth over QR81 billion, aimed at executing vital infrastructure projects across the country. This initiative will cover a range of sectors, including the development of citizens' lands, government buildings, sewage networks, and strategic outfalls. This strategic move sets the stage for shaping Qatar's infrastructure over the next five years.
The 2025-2029 five-year plan is the largest in Ashghal's history, both in terms of the number of projects and the scale of investments. Ashghal will prioritize advanced sewage and rainwater drainage projects, which include the construction of strategic tunnels, pumping and treatment stations, and home connections. These efforts are aimed at reducing flooding and improving the efficiency of Qatar's national drainage network.
