AtkinsRéalis Group Inc., an engineering services and nuclear company, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Patrick J Tobin & Co. Ltd. (TOBIN), an Irish engineering and project management consultancy. The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.
TOBIN, founded in 1952 and headquartered in Galway, employs approximately 200 people across five offices in Ireland. The firm provides multidisciplinary engineering, technical and program management services across four end markets—Building & Places, Water and Transportation—with a specialism in environmental and planning services. It works with regional and national clients on infrastructure programs.
Following the acquisition, AtkinsRéalis' workforce in Ireland will rise to more than 700 employees. The company currently has about 500 staff in the country, with a regional headquarters in Dublin and offices in Cork, Galway and Dundalk. In 2024, AtkinsRéalis marked 25 years of operations in Ireland and announced a growth plan and recruitment drive.

Ian L. Edwards, President and Chief Executive Officer of AtkinsRéalis, said the acquisition builds on the company's 25-year history in Ireland and adds complementary capabilities to its UK & Ireland business. He cited Ireland's pipeline of infrastructure, energy and sustainable development projects as a factor behind the deal.

AtkinsRéalis' existing work in Ireland includes multidisciplinary design for two Iarnród Éireann (Irish Rail) projects, DART+ West and DART+ South West; engineering, planning and project management services for EirGrid's electricity transmission investment programme; work on the Water Supply Project for Uisce Éireann (Irish Water); design and project management for the 19-kilometre Dublin Metrolink Advanced Works; and an ongoing relationship with daa to support upgrades at Dublin Airport.
