  • Bahrain’s EWA invites bids for major RO desalination plant upgrade

About the entity

The Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) of Bahrain has invited bids for a tender to upgrade the Ras Abu Jarjour reverse osmosis desalination plant situated in Askar, on the southeastern coast of Bahrain for a total of BD20 million ($52.7 million), reports Trade Arabia.

The facility currently has a production capacity of 16.3 million imperial gallons of potable water per day.

The project will expand the life span of the station by another 20 years and will be upgraded by using reverse osmosis from underground wells.

The Ras Abu Jarjour RO plant was established in 1984, and its production capacity gradually increased over time by adding more desalination units.

EWA President Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed has announced the plans to upgrade the project. The finalization of tender documents has been completed, and they will soon be available online on the Tender Board.

All international companies interested in the project will be required to submit their competitive technical and financial bids according to the latest global standards, he emphasized.

The project scope includes the development and implementation of electromechanical works. Additionally, it involves replacing high-pressure pumps with more energy-efficient ones to achieve energy savings.

Furthermore, the membranes of RO units will be replaced, and the civil structure will undergo upgrades. The latest technologies that meet environmental requirements will also be deployed to enhance the operational process of the station.
