“Bentley’s solution aided health & safety performance of Burnley WwTW Capital Investment Project"

Adam Robson from MWH Treatment tells us about the Burnley WwTW Capital Investment Project

About the entity

On November 14 and 15, Bentley Systems hosted the Year in Infrastructure Conference and Going Digital Awards 2022 in London. The Going Digital Awards recognise the work of Bentley software users on infrastructure projects across the world. In 2022 the Water and Wastewater category recognised projects that have demonstrated excellence and digital advancements in planning, modelling and analysis, design, construction, operation, or maintenance of water infrastructure. They included water and wastewater treatment plants, water supply and distribution systems, wastewater collection systems, stormwater systems, etc. The project finalists for this year’s awards were announced last September.

During the London conference, the Smart Water Magazine team had the opportunity to interview the representatives of some of these year’s extraordinary infrastructure projects. In this interview, we hear from Adam Robson, Regional Rehearsal Lead at MWH Treatment, representing the Burnley Wastewater Treatment Works Capital Investment Project in the UK, a finalist in the Water and Wastewater category.

The Burnley WWTW project, part of United Utilities Water Company, was planned to improve site capabilities and comply with new, stricter regulatory standards and accommodate population growth. The project was designed with a clear digital intent, to address coordination and logistical challenges in a context of time, cost, and site constraints. The team generated a 4D construction model using SYNCHRO, to optimally phase the works and support monthly digital rehearsals to review progress. The 4D model serves as a digital twin, enabling informed decision making, and will be provided to the client so it can be used during the O&M phase.
