Dubai has completed the first phase of its sewerage and stormwater network development project in the Al Quoz Creative Zone, with an investment of 250 million UAE dirhams (US$68 million).
The total cost of the project is estimated at AED 500 million (about US$136 million), according to a statement from the Dubai Media Office citing Dubai Municipality.
The initiative aims to enhance the sewerage and stormwater infrastructure for Al Quoz Industrial Areas 1, 2, 3, and 4, as well as the area between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road. The project covers 1,600 hectares and serves more than 1,500 plots.
Phase one of the project involved the construction of sewerage and stormwater drainage networks across 155 hectares and 123 plots. The sewerage network was expanded by 15 kilometres, while the integrated stormwater drainage network was extended by 14 kilometres.
This project is part of Dubai’s broader AED 30 billion sewerage system development program, aimed at increasing the drainage capacity by 700% over the next 100 years.
Adel Mohammed Al Marzouqi, CEO of the Waste and Sewerage Agency at Dubai Municipality, stated that the project will improve the efficiency of the rainwater drainage system in the Al Quoz Creative Zone, minimising water accumulation.
Details regarding the timeline for the second phase of the project were not provided.
In related news, Dubai Municipality, through its Sewerage and Recycled Water Projects Department (SRPD), has invited bids for a stormwater drainage upgrade project in the Al Khawaneej area, with a submission deadline of April 23.
