Dubai Municipality has announced the opening of bids for a major stormwater drainage upgrade project in the Al Khawaneej area. The deadline for submission is set for April 23.
The project, managed by the Sewerage and Recycled Water Projects Department (SRPD), aims to enhance the stormwater drainage infrastructure along key roads and surrounding areas within the designated zones. The successful contractor will be tasked with evaluating the performance of the current drainage system, identifying deficiencies, and developing solutions to address both present and future stormwater demands, aligning with the goals of the Dubai 2040 Masterplan and the wider Tasreef Programme.
The scope of work includes the installation of new stormwater pipelines with diameters of up to 1,600 mm, alongside comprehensive data collection, site investigations, and assessments of the existing drainage conditions. The contractor will also be responsible for identifying areas vulnerable to flooding and assessing the current system’s performance in those areas.
Additionally, the project emphasises the integration of sustainable drainage solutions, such as sustainable urban drainage systems (SuDS) and nature-based approaches. Contractors will be required to prepare both preliminary and detailed designs, as well as tender documents and construction packages for the entire project.
The chosen contractor will also coordinate with relevant authorities, secure the necessary approvals, and oversee the construction phase until the project is completed and handed over.
