Dubai Municipality’s robust pipeline of Public-Private Partnership (PPP) initiatives exceed AED 32 billion ($8.7 billion), reports Zawya. According to Ahmad Al-Sabbah, Investment & PPP Expert at Dubai Municipality, who spoke at the PPP MENA forum in Dubai, they comprise projects in the water and sewerage, waste management, as well as public amenities sectors. Two of these projects have already been delivered, and the remaining projects are in various stages of development.
Some of the most important investments involve water and wastewater projects. The largest initiative is the Dubai Strategic Sewerage Tunnel (DSST), a massive AED 25 billion ($6.8 billion) project. The first phase of the DSST is expected to be awarded by the end of 2025.
Another key project is the Jebel Ali Sewage Treatment Plant – Phase 3, valued at AED 1.5 billion ($408 million). Once completed, the plant will boost capacity by 375,000 cubic meters per day. The contract for this design, build, finance, operate, maintain, and transfer (DBFOMT) project is expected to be signed by 2026.
Additionally, the AED 1 billion ($272 million) Hatta sewerage, storm water and recycled water project will expand sewage, stormwater, and recycled water systems on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis. The project, currently undergoing a feasibility study, is set for contract signing in 2025, with a three-year construction period and a 20-year operational phase.
These projects underscore Dubai's commitment to sustainable infrastructure development and its strategic vision for the future.
