The Emirates Water and Electricity Company, EWEC, has announced the appointment of Othman Al Ali as the company’s new Chief Executive Officer, reports TradeArabia.
EWEC replaced the Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Company (ADWEC) late last year as the leading company in charge of providing water production and power generation services across the UAE. It coordinates the planning and purchasing of all power generation for water and electricity to meet the expected needs for these resources in Abu Dhabi and beyond, with a focus on sustainability and renewable technology.
Al Ali was formerly the Chief Financial Officer at the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA), and has extensive experience in the private and the public sectors. He has worked for several organisations of the UAE government, with positions in the utilities sector and the banking sector.
Mohamed Hassan Al Suwaidi, Chairman of EWEC, noted that Al Ali’s previous experience in the industry will be key to drive the business forward. ‘We look forward to working together to achieve higher efficiency and enhanced performance in the utilities sector’, he said.
Al Ali commented on his new appointment: ‘It is with great honour that I take on a leadership role with such an important player in the UAE energy sector as it continues to diversify its energy mix. The investment case for sustainable power generation and water production has never been stronger’. He also mentioned his intention of strengthening national and international partnerships and ensuring the efficient use of the UAE’s natural resources.
