Five companies have submitted bids for an international Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) tender issued by Bahrain’s Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) for a new seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination project, reports Zawya.
The Kingdom of Bahrain’s Tender Board provided details of the New Hawar SWRO Desalination Plant, which is set to produce between one and two million imperial gallons per day (MIGD) of potable water. The project will also include the installation of two ground storage tanks, each with a capacity of one MIG, along with the necessary forwarding pumps.
This significant project, scheduled for completion within one year, will be carried out under an EPC contract.
The tender was issued on April 23, 2024, with a bid submission deadline of August 21, 2024. The bids were opened on August 22, 2024.
The five companies that have submitted bids are:
- Kuwait’s Mohammed A Al Kharafi & Sons for General Trading General Contracting and Industrial Structures
- Bahrain’s Alpha Energy Generations Co.
- UAE’s Tecton Engineering and Construction Branch Office
- Bahrain’s Almoayyed Contracting
- China’s China Machinery Engineering Corporation
To qualify, bidders must demonstrate significant experience in the design, construction, and commissioning of SWRO desalination plants. Specifically, they needed to have completed at least two SWRO desalination projects, including both green-field and brown-field ventures, within the past ten years.
Additionally, successful bidders must have managed projects with a minimum production capacity of five MIGD and have demonstrated operational success for at least two years.
