Emirates Water and Electricity Company (Ewec), supplier of water and electricity in Abu Dhabi and beyond, has received proposals from four companies or consortia for the Mirfa 2 (M2) independent water project (IWP) in Abu Dhabi, reports Energy & Utilities.
Sources close to the planned IWP revealed that the proposals were received from bidding consortia led by Acciona, Engie, Acwa Power and GS Inima.
The Mirfa independent water project is expected to be completed by 2025. The facility will have a capacity to supply up to 80 million imperial gallons a day (MIGD) of desalinated water.
The plant will be built close to the existing Mirfa independent water and power project (IWPP) and will meet the water demand of up to 140,000 households.
According to Energy & Utilities, EWEC has chosen Alderbook, White & Case and Fichtner as financial, legal and technical advisers respectively.
In February 2022, Ewec had invited expressions of interest (EOIs) from worldwide developers for the project. A total of 41 companies sent in their bids and the company prequalified 22 firms to participate in the RFP stage.
