The Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation of Jordan and the German KfW Development Bank have signed two significant agreements aimed at bolstering the country's water and sanitation infrastructure, according to the Jordan News Agency.
The first agreement involves €21.5 million in funding from the German government, channeled through KfW, to advance the third phase of outcome-based financing for Jordan's water sector. This initiative focuses on improving wastewater treatment facilities in northern Jordan, enhancing their operations, maintenance, and overall cost efficiency.
The second agreement allocates €15 million to support the National Water Carrier project, which facilitates desalination and water transport between Aqaba and Amman. With this contribution, Germany's total financial commitment to the project has reached €80 million.
Zeina Toukan, Jordan’s Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, emphasized that Germany remains Jordan's most vital development partner, particularly in addressing challenges in water and sanitation sectors.
German Ambassador to Jordan, Bernhard Kampmann, acknowledged the water-related challenges Jordan faces and affirmed that this funding agreement reflects ongoing collaboration between Germany and Jordan to meet the country's water needs.
