Grundfos has entered into an agreement to acquire Newterra, a Pittsburgh-based company specializing in water and wastewater treatment solutions. The move is part of Grundfos’ continued efforts to expand its operations in North America.
The Danish-based Grundfos, known for its water solutions technologies, is acquiring Newterra from the Chicago-based private equity firm Frontenac. This acquisition follows several others Grundfos has made in the water treatment sector in recent years and contributes to its strategy of broadening its capabilities in this area.
The agreement aligns with Grundfos' stated goal of increasing its presence in the US and Canadian markets. The company has announced plans to double its business in the US by 2030 and recently revealed it will expand its production in the country by constructing a new facility in Brookshire, Texas, which also serves as its US headquarters.

“This acquisition is a natural next step towards realizing our ambitious growth plans for the US. Strengthening our capabilities in water treatment enables Grundfos and our customers to make an even bigger positive impact on the world’s water and climate challenges,” says Inge Delobelle, EVP & Divisional CEO, Industry Division, Grundfos, adding: “With Newterra’s capabilities and track record, we see this as a perfect fit for Grundfos. By integrating their complementary technologies and leveraging their market presence, we will be able to offer a wider range of products and offerings. This addition to our portfolio will enable our customers to address the evolving demands for water solutions.”
Newterra employs approximately 280 people and provides modular water and wastewater treatment systems to both industrial and municipal clients.
“We are very excited about joining Grundfos. Our visions and shared focus on enabling sustainable solutions for our customers are well aligned. And I am sure, that with our capabilities and the many strengths of Grundfos, together, we can achieve so much more for our customers and the world around us,” says Kevin Cassidy, CEO of Newterra.
Since 2020, Grundfos has completed multiple acquisitions to enhance its water treatment offerings. With the addition of Newterra, the company’s water treatment segment will comprise over 1,500 employees across Europe and North America and generate more than USD 350 million in annual revenue.
The transaction is subject to standard closing conditions, including regulatory approval, and is expected to be finalized in the second half of the year. Until the acquisition is complete, Grundfos and Newterra will continue to operate independently.
