GS Inima secures €870 million sanitation PPP contract in Espírito Santo

  • GS Inima secures €870 million sanitation PPP contract in Espírito Santo

About the entity

GS Inima, through its subsidiary GS Inima Brasil, has secured Block 1 of a major sanitation public-private partnership (PPP) in Espírito Santo, Brazil. The contract was awarded following an international tender organized by CESAN (Companhia Espírito-santense de Saneamento) and held at the B3 São Paulo Stock Exchange.

The 25-year agreement represents the largest sanitation PPP implemented in the state. Under the terms of the contract, approximately €870 million — equivalent to R$4.9 billion — will be invested in infrastructure and operations. The initiative will deliver wastewater collection and treatment services across 35 municipalities, with the aim of expanding access and improving service quality.

According to the company, the project "further strengthens GS Inima’s position in the market, showcasing its technical proficiency, strategic foresight, and unwavering dedication to Brazil’s social and environmental progress."

The company has an existing presence in Espírito Santo and is already working with CESAN on various projects, including what it describes as "the state’s first sub-concession for water reuse, a pioneering initiative that cements GS Inima’s position as an innovator in the sector." GS Inima highlighted that the prior partnership with CESAN has built a "solid foundation of trust, operational efficiency and concrete results," and that the continuation of this collaboration "reaffirms the commitment to sustainable development and improving the quality of life for the population of Espírito Santo."

The project involves constructing 39 wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs), 219 wastewater pumping stations (WPS), and installing 1,200 kilometres of collection networks. These developments are expected to provide over 90% of the population served with access to wastewater sanitation services by 2033, aligning with the targets set by the new national legal framework for sanitation.

Beyond its infrastructure objectives, the project is expected to contribute to job creation and regional income generation, with the company stating it will "drive structured, inclusive and sustainable economic development across the 35 beneficiary municipalities."

GS Inima Brasil referred to the award of Block 1 as a reaffirmation of its role in the sector, noting that the company "stands out for delivering concrete results, creating value for communities, protecting natural resources, and transforming lives with responsibility, innovation, and a clear purpose: to contribute to Brazil’s sustainable development and the well-being of its people."
