GS Inima has obtained financing to construct a 6.3 MWp photovoltaic plant at the Barka V desalination facility in Oman. The initiative is part of efforts to incorporate renewable energy into key infrastructure.
The photovoltaic system, intended for self-consumption, will supply around 11% of Barka V’s energy needs through 2044. Covering an area of 40,000 square meters, the installation will be designed, built, operated, and maintained by GS Inima.
The financing is supported by COFIDES, a Spanish public-private institution that provides funding for international and sustainable business projects.
Located in Oman’s Muscat and Batinah regions, the Barka V plant has been operational since June 2024 and produces up to 100,000 cubic meters of water daily, serving over 800,000 people. This solar initiative marks the second such project in the country to integrate solar energy into the desalination process.
GS Inima representatives noted that the financing finalizes a development process started in 2022 and acknowledged COFIDES’ role in the project's completion.
The project contributes to the company’s broader efforts to expand its operations in the Middle East and to support energy-efficient, environmentally focused infrastructure development.
